‘More Truth-y than Truthful’: Stephen Colbert Rips Into Common Core—and Melinda Gates Tweets Back

The soon-to-be David Letterman successor did a scathing send up of the confusing nature of Common Core testing on April 8, and Melinda Gates tweeted back in a good natured way.

Common Core State Standards have made it to Comedy Central.

On an April 8 episode of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report,” Stephen Colbert ripped into Common Core making fun of the confusing nature of Common Core questions. Showing some actual examples of math problems from a core math exam—which could be construed as confusing in their nature—Colbert followed up with:

“Common Core testing prepares students for what they will face as adults: pointless stress and confusion,” said Colbert.

Melinda Gates, whose foundation the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has been instrumental in the funding and lobbying of Common Core, responded in a good natured tweet a day after the show aired.
